“How was the flight?”
That’s right! I just returned from two resort visits in Cancun. It was so exciting to travel again. Southwest was amazing! Clean, orderly, respectful, middle seats blocked, and everyone in masks. I felt completely at ease and safe. It was hard to believe I hadn’t been on a plane for over six months. Southwest revised its unique boarding process to ensure social distancing – it worked like a charm. Just as they had communicated, service was limited (cups of water and a couple of bags of nuts), but friendly and efficient.
Safety everywhere!
Both all-inclusive resorts I visited – Iberostar Paraiso Maya and NOW Sapphire – were pristine. Hi-tech temperature monitors greeted us at the entrances, and individually wrapped amenities and sanitation notices made me feel welcome and secure. Everyone on staff at of both resorts wore masks and, frequently, gloves. The other guests? A little hit or miss. While both resorts strongly encouraged masks, they didn’t require them in all areas.
Surf ‘n’ sand
I didn’t realize how much I missed relaxing on the beach, listening to the surf, and sipping a cold beverage. It was so peaceful, even near the beach bars! Beach activities like Hobie cat rentals and waveriders were limited. I learned that each district with Quintana Roo has slightly different rules related to the virus.
Culinary extravagance
Dining is a bit different than the usual experience at these resorts. Tables were appropriately distanced and menus were available via QR code on my phone. Servers were in masks and/or shields or both! The buffet food was cooked to order or handed out. As always, the food was amazing!
Outstanding service
The staff at both resorts were phenomenal. They were so happy to see guests visiting again, and they did everything possible to take away any concerns. Housekeeping services continued, complete with the reassuring sanitary stickers, and poolside servers kept the drinks flowing at the pools. I felt completely spoiled!
